![]() ![]() (See 1317.) Sir Adam was accused, after his release, of joining his nephew, and when his grandson, Gerard Widdrington granted some lands in the county to Roger Widdrington. Edward II., according to Leland, arrested him because he had spoken about the state of the marches too sharply to the king himself, a'proceeding which galled his nephew, Gilbert Middleton, into open rebellion. He had also the custody of the palatinate of Durham entrusted to his care after the death of Bishop Kellawe in 1316. ![]() Sir Adam Swinburne, knight, who was sheriff of Northumberland from 1315 to 1317, and as such had the custody of the castle of Newcastle.
